The silent problem

Somewhere in your home, there's a box.
And it's fading.

The wedding, the summer of 1978, the kids' first steps. Every year, the colors on that film fade a little more. It's chemical, and it can't be undone.

The photo appears on the screen and is saved to the memory card. On to the next one.

What next? You connect the scanner to your TV with the included cable to look through them as a family. The memory card can be read on a computer: send the photos to the kids, or drop the card off at your photo shop for prints.

Nothing forces you to do it all at once. Ten tonight, ten on Sunday, the scanner will wait. There's nothing to learn. There's just a box of memories to open, and it's yours.

The question we get asked the most

"You can find them for $60 on Amazon.
Why yours?"

That's true, and it's a question that deserves a real answer rather than a sales pitch. Four differences, open the ones that matter to you.

01The number on the box isn't the real number

Devices like this are advertised at 14 or 22 megapixels. Those numbers come from software interpolation: the file is enlarged after the fact, and it doesn't contain a single extra detail.

Our sensor is 2592 × 1944 pixels, so 5 million real pixels, and that's what we tell you. Sharp on a TV, sharp on a computer, sharp as a 4 × 6 or 5 × 7 in print.

A device that promises you 22 megapixels doesn't give you four times more. It gives you a number.

02Everything is in the box, the moment you open it

The slide holder and the negative holder, both of them, not just one. The cleaning brush. The TV cable. And your large-print English guide, sent by email with your order, written to be read without a magnifying glass, with diagrams.

The Comfort and Family packs already include the memory card. Nothing else to order before you can get started.

03A real person answers, in English, 7 days a week

If you get stuck on the very first slide, you write to contact@bellaby-us.com and a person answers you. Not a form, not a translated auto-reply.

It's the kind of detail nobody cares about while everything works, and it becomes the only thing that matters the day something goes wrong.

04Nothing to pay on delivery, and 30 days to change your mind

Shipping is tracked and free, duties and taxes are paid by us: the mail carrier won't ask you for anything. And you have 30 days to judge it on your own slides, no reason needed.

When you order directly from overseas, neither of those is ever guaranteed.

Let's be honest: if you're comfortable with electronics and ordering from overseas doesn't bother you, a $60 model will get the job done eventually.

Ours is made for people who want to open the box, set the device on the table, and start that same evening.

Your questions, our answers

Do I need a computer?

No. Everything happens on the device: you load the film, you press, the photo is saved to the memory card. Many of our customers don't own a computer at all.

How is the device powered?

Through a USB cable, included in the box. You plug one end into the device and the other into a USB charger: your phone charger works just fine.

Is it complicated?

One button. The large-print English guide walks you through it step by step, and our team answers in English 7 days a week.

Which films are compatible?

35 mm slides and 35 mm negatives, in color and in black and white: the formats of 99% of family photos taken between 1960 and 2000.

Which formats are not compatible?

The device only takes 35 mm: mounted slides and negatives. That rules out medium format 6 × 6, 6 × 9 and 6 × 4.5, the 110, 126 and 127 formats, 8 mm and Super 8 film, paper photos and video cassettes. Panoramic shots are 35 mm, but the device scans 24 × 36 mm frames: the image won't fit in full. For all of these formats, you'll need a photo lab.

Do I need to cut my negative strips?

No, no cutting. You open the holder and lay the strip inside, with its perforations lined up with the holder's. You close it, then slide the holder into the slot on the right side of the device. Your negatives are never cut.

Where do the photos go?

On an SD memory card, as JPEGs. To look at them on your TV, you connect the scanner to the TV with the included cable. The card itself can be read on a computer, or dropped off at a photo shop for prints.

Is the memory card included?

It depends on the pack you choose. The Essential Pack ships without a card: plan on a standard SD card, like the 32 GB card in our Comfort and Family packs. The Comfort Pack ships with that 32 GB card, about 15,000 photos. The Family Pack includes two.

What's the photo resolution?

The sensor is 2592 × 1944 pixels, so 5 million real pixels per photo. That's the honest number: the "14" or "22 megapixels" you see on this type of device come from software interpolation and add no detail. The result is sharp on a TV, on a computer and as a 4 × 6 or 5 × 7 in print. It isn't a lab scanner: for a large-format enlargement, go to a professional.

Can I print the photos?

Yes. Up to 5 × 7 in, the print is perfectly sharp; an 8 × 10 in still looks very good in an album or a frame. For anything larger, go through a photo lab.

How long does it take?

About 3 seconds per photo. A box of 100 slides gets scanned in an afternoon, memories and coffee breaks included.

Are my originals at any risk?

None. No heat, no contact with the image surface: your film comes out exactly as it went in, and never leaves your living room.

My slides are really old, will it work?

Yes. Automatic correction brings faded colors back. Film that's badly damaged will stay damaged (no device works miracles), but the image will be saved before it's too late.

A thin black line shows up on the edge of a photo, is that a defect?

No, nothing is wrong with your device. Older film isn't always perforated exactly where the ISO standard says it should be, and that small gap sometimes lets a sliver of the film's edge show in the photo. A crop makes it disappear, in two seconds on a computer, or at your photo shop if you prefer.

What if I can't get it to work?

Write to us: our English-speaking support stays with you until your first scanned photo. And you have 30 days to change your mind.

How long does shipping take?

Free tracked shipping in 7 to 10 business days. You'll get a tracking number by email.

It's a gift. Any ideas?

The Family Pack is made for that: two memory cards, one to keep and one to give away already filled with your scanned memories.

What does the guarantee cover?

30 days money-back, no reason needed. Try it out calmly at home.

Is the device in English?

Yes. The device menu can be set to English, among nine available languages. And your large-print English guide is sent by email with your order.

Can I copy the photos to my computer?

Yes, in two ways. Either you take out the SD card and read it on the computer. Or you connect the scanner to the computer with the included USB cable and choose "USB MSDC" in the menu: the card then shows up as a drive and you copy your photos.

How many frames fit in the holders?

The negative holder takes a strip of 6 frames, the slide holder takes 4 slides. You keep loading one after another without changing any settings.
